PAIR OF "CHECKERED" STOOLS GERMANY (?), MID 18th CENTURY Painted and gilt oak; fabric H. 56 cm, W. 61 cm, D. 49 cm This beautiful pair of stools called "à carreaux" presents a rococo decoration in carved, painted and gilded wood with motifs of florets, leafy cartouches and volutes on all its sides. A rich ornamentation with falls and sabots respond to this decoration. The stools are topped with two cushions decorated with flowers and foliage and are supported by four curved legs ending in volutes.
