Sarkowski 1872 - Badorrek-Hoguth 28.1 - First edition. - Encouraged by Walser's contributions to the journal "Die Insel" the publisher had agreed to issue a small collection of previous works. 1300 copies were printed by Breitkopf & Härtel. The sale turned into a disaster; after one year, only 47 copies had been sold. The remaining stock is said to have been sold off in a department store. The poet's brother also did the calligraphy for the double title and the chapter headings. "Karl Walser has drawn a lot of compote into the book; but that does no harm" (Kurt Tucholsky, in "Die Schaubühne" 17, 1913, quoted from Badorrek-Hoguth). - Nicely preserved copy, scattered foxing.
