PITTORE DEL XIX SECOLO

Triptych with erotic subject Oil on panel, 25X44.5X2 cm (closed), 50X44.5X1 cm (open) The painting dates back to the 19th century and has no equal in illustration, but there is no doubt that it is a translation 'without veils' of medieval and courtly literature, of those fabliaux that are found to be quite morose in language and narration. An example for all, as recently recalled by Alessandro Barbero, is Le sohait des vez, or the Folle sogno, the first story in verse written by the French poet Jean Bodel (1167 - 1210), which unashamedly tells of an unsatisfied wife who dreams of going to the market to buy 'those things' (see A. Barbero, La voglia dei cazzi e altri fabliaux medievali, Vercelli 2020). In our case it is also possible to evoke the novellas of Boccaccio and the Roman de la Rose with its illuminated illustrations.
