FRANCESCO MANCINI

(Sant'Angelo in Vado, 1679 - Rome, 1758) The Visitation Oil on canvas, 195X118 cm The canvas has been traced back to the catalogue of Francesco Mancini by Alessandro Delpriori, for the obvious influences of Roman classicism, the Marche sensibilities inferred from the famous altarpiece by Federico Barocci in the Chiesa Nuova and the influences of Carlo Maratti. The artist, initially trained with Marcantonio Franceschini in Bologna, moved to Rome and the contact with the Capitoline and Maratti culture brought about a profound change in his art and in this case we remember his collaboration with Agostino Masucci in the Palazzo Convento di Marfra and the Evero Cathedral. Also from this period are the frescoes in the Quirinal Palace, those in the Chiesa Nuova dei Filippini in Perugia (1730), those in the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia in Macerata (1736), in Sant'Angelo in Vado, Forlì and Rimini. Francesco Mancini was esteemed by his contemporaries as one of the best painters of his time and appreciated above all for the clear and luminous tones of his works. He was accepted among the members of the Academy of France in Rome (1732), at the Academy of the Virtuous at the Pantheon in Rome (between 1743 and 1745) and at the Academy of San Luca (1750-51). We thank Alessandro Delpriori for the attribution on photographic basis.
