LORENZO TIEPOLO (attr. A)

(Venice, 1736 - Madrid, 1776) Monochrome head study Oil on canvas, 39.5X30.5 cm The painting bears an interesting attribution to Lorenzo Tiepolo and resolved in grisaille suggests that it is a study. The youngest son of Giambattista and brother of Giandomenico, the painter trained in the family workshop, and in 1750 his presence in Würzburg is documented, where his father had been called to decorate with frescoes the residence of the prince, Bishop Philippe von Greiffenklau. In 1761 he was registered in the Fraglia of artists, which indicates that he lived in the lagoon city and carried out his profession independently, but the following year Giambattista was commissioned by Charles III of Spain to decorate the Palacio de Oriente, the new court palace, and the Tiepolo family moved to Madrid. Lorenzo was immediately active in the Spanish capital, executing portraits, works with religious and profane subjects.
