Description

FELICE BOSELLI (attr. A)

(Piacenza, 1651 - Parma, 1732) Game Oil on canvas, 21X21 cm The composition depicts a still life of game on a kitchen table, offering a scene of lively naturalism undoubtedly inspired by Dutch and Flemish examples. It was certainly this characteristic that brought Felice Boselli fame and fortune as a collector, and the proof is in the number of similar works known, especially in the private collections of the nobility of Piacenza and Parma, where it must have been an obligatory tribute to good taste and elegance to decorate the walls of the dining rooms with his paintings. The rich but often truculent subjects depict butchered meat, disembowelled fish, birds, plucked chickens arranged in bulk in dark and smoky environments, where stray cats or shaggy dogs often roam.
