(Otterberg, 1631 - Frankfurt am Main, 1685)
View of Monte Soratte with shepherd and herds
Oil on canvas, 67X80 cm
The painting depicts a real view of the Roman countryside with Monte Soratte in the background and is attributed to Johann Heinrich Roos, a German painter and etcher of the Baroque period, who specialized in landscapes and scenes with animals. He was court painter under Charles I Louis of the Palatinate. His son Philipp Peter Roos is known as Rosa da Tivoli.
