Due to the format and the sprezzatura of the drafts, this canvas can be classified as a sketch for a larger work. The characters of style and writing date it to the end of the 17th century, while the scenic and narrative construction show a happy baroque interpretation of the biblical theme. The colours and the style go beyond the language of the south, suggesting the author's central Italian genesis and his proximity to the work of Luigi Garzi (Pistoia, 1638 - Rome, 1721) and in particular of Lazzaro Baldi (Pistoia, about 1624 - Rome, 1703), i.e. those artists with Tuscan training who were active in Rome.
