LAZZARO BALDI (attr. A)

(Pistoia, 1622 - Rome, 1703) Madonna with Child and Saint Oil on canvas, 63X76 cm The image depicts Saint Rose of Lima (Lima, 1586 -1617), who was beatified in 1668 by Pope Clement IX and canonized in 1671 by Pope Clement X. She was the first of the American saints and is the patron saint of Peru, the New World and the Philippines. The iconography of the Saint spread considerably in the Baroque age, just to mention the most famous names we remember the paintings dedicated to her by Lazzaro Baldi, famous precisely because of a career devoted to the painting of canonization and Carlo Dolci, not to mention the artists of the Spanish school.
