PETER WTEWAEL (seguace di)
(Utrecht, 1596 - 1660)
Shepherd at rest
Oil on canvas, 30X36 cm
Trained in the family studio, Peter mainly depicted historical, mythological, religious and still life subjects. Some of his genre compositions are rare, such as the Kitchen Scene of about 1620, similar in structure to those of Cornelis Jacobsz Delft, Pieter Cornelisz van Rijck and Floris van Schooten. His style, initially very similar to that of his father, probably learned by making copies of his works, changed from 1620 onwards, assimilating characteristics from the paintings of Abraham Bloemaert.
