PITTORE DEL XVII-XVIII SECOLO
Allegory of Vanity and Avarice
Oil on canvas, 31X23 cm
The work is collectively attributed to Salomon Savery, Dutch painter and engraver, son of Roelant, brother of Pieter, Hans II and Jacob II, nephew of Jacob Savery. His first work dates back to 1610 and his later works represent in particular landscapes, portraits and prints concerning buildings; in particular a painting of 1631 on the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch is well known. Salomon Savery died in Haarlem in 1678. The illustrative model is thought to be taken from an engraving by Cornelis Bloemaert and Abrahm Bloemaert.
