Trained in his father's workshop in Vicenza, he was later a pupil of Giovanni Antonio Fasolo, through whom he became acquainted with the manner of the Veronese painters from Vicenza, in particular Giovan Battista Zelotti. But it was during his stay in Venice, between 1572 and 1576, that the painter was influenced by the works of Palma il Giovane and in his early maturity by Jacopo Bassano. It is in these years that his works take on delicate dark intonations but rich in colour and lively in scenic construction.
