Description

PARIS 1779 - 1780 and 1780 - 1781 A pair of large round toilet boxes, resting on a frame. The lower part of the body is decorated with a chiselled motif of inverted scrolls of leaves and flowers in four reserves. The body is enhanced by garlands of falling laurels held together by ribbons. The mobile lid with a doucine, moulded with enrubanised fillets, is chiselled with a decoration reminiscent of the spirit of the motif on the base. The upper edge of the stave is decorated with a string of pearls. Engraved with the arms of the Church family, originally from Earls Colne in the County of Essex, Great Britain. Master goldsmith : François JOUBERT, received in 1749 Hallmarks : for the bodies letter Q, for the lids letter S. Probably inversion of the lids during a previous sharing.
