Jug with handle. Paul Wynand for Reinhold Merkelbach, Grenzhausen. 1925- 1945. Paul Wynand1879 Elberfeld - 1956 Berlin. Stoneware, light grey body, brown engobed, "Cologne brown" salt glazed. The body with a geometric decoration of circles with a beaded band in relief and interspersed crosses in relief as well as a pewter lid mounting with a thumb latch. The maker's mark "Reinhold Merkelbach Grenzhausen" and the embossed model number "2179" on the underside. Year of design: around 1910. Erlebach, Jürgen / Schimanski, Jürgen: Westerwälder Steinzeug. The New Era. 1900-1930. Jugendstil und Werkbund, Düsseldorf 1987, p. 102, no. 235, mark 22. Tin lid with three small scratches. Measures: H. 26,5 cm. Paul Wynand 1879 Elberfeld - 1956 Berlin Studies at the art school in Berlin, some time in Paris with Rodin. From 1905 teaching at the State College for Ceramics in Koblenz. 1934-45 Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin.
