Edouard Drouot "Decrotteur arabe" (The Shoeshine Man). Late 19th/early 20th c. Edouard Drouot1859 Sommevoire - 1945 Paris. Bronze, cast, with reddish-brown patina, rubbed through, the cap partly discreetly set. Laughing shoeshine boy leaning against a stone. Titled on a plaque on the front and inscribed "Medaille, Beaux-Arts". Signed "E. Drouot" on the model and on the flat plinth with the round seal "Bronze Garanti au Titre, Paris" on the model. Verso on the stone base probably with a foundry stamp (indistinct). Stamped "R" on the underside. Thestaffing of the cap minimally rubbed. Isolated inconspicuous scratches. Dimensions: H. 33,3 cm. Edouard Drouot 1859 Sommevoire - 1945 Paris French sculptor. Studied in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts under Émile Thomas and Mathurin Moreau. Exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1882. Received a medal in 1892 as well as a "mention honourable" at the World's Fair in Paris in 1900. Drouot is known for portrait busts as well as figures with allegorical and mythological subjects and created numerous bronze statuettes in the Art Deco style.
