Autograph letter signed "Jean Cocteau", Villefranche-sur-Mer August 1924, to Carl EINSTEIN; 1 page in-4. About his translations into German. [The writer Carl Einstein (1885-1940) had to leave Germany after his conviction for blasphemy provoked by his play Die Schlimme Botschaft, and had settled in France]. "Cocteau attaches the greatest importance to being translated into the German language." "You have to write to Man Ray for the photo, to La Sirène, Stock and the N.R.F. for the texts". "I would like to see Thomas the Impostor translated" ... Another autograph letter signed, January 22, 1950 (1 p. in-4) is attached: "Alas, I could not come to Brussels because of the work on Orphée and Les Enfants terribles. And I'm coming all the same - that's to say that I'm jumping from one train to the other" ...
