On his departure from Rome.
He is sorry to have to leave while his friend arrives in Rome. "It is one of those disgraces that only happen to me, after a year of sadness and boredom at the moment when I could be happier and when you arrive I am obliged to leave"... He reminds himself of Dorcy's sister-in-law, and then adds that he leaves "a few things that may be useful to you, such as an easel, a box of colours, and prepared canvases, and then I will send a very clever old man to look for a studio. When you have found it, start working right away, it is the only way to avoid boredom"...
