Description

DELACROIX Eugène (1798-1863).

L.A.S. "Eug. Delacroix", 15 June 1845, to Jean-Victor SCHNETZ; 2 pages in-8. Recommendation to the director of the French Academy in Rome. "I take the liberty of recommending to you Mr. Léon Fauré, my pupil, who has just obtained from the city of Toulouse to be his boarder in Rome. I thought you would allow him to come and ask your advice on his studies from time to time: I know of no one to whom I would recommend him with more confidence in the interest of his future. I send you travellers and I cannot send myself: it seems that a sort of fatality chains me here and postpones from year to year the hope of reaching this admirable country. In the meantime, time passes and with it the passion for beautiful things: it would be the last thing I would like to lose"... A L.A.S. "Eug. Delacroix", 20 September [1845 ?], to the architect Daniel Ramée (1 p. in-8 with his own figure, address), asking him for two leather skins from Russia.
