Spanish school; early 20th century. "Coat of arms of the Marquises of Cuevas de Velasco". Gouache drawing on paper. With dedication on the back. Measurements: 15,5 x 15,5 cm. The singularity of this piece does not lie in the meticulous work on the front where we can see in detail each of the elements typical of a noble emblem, but on the back. On the back of the paper is a dedication as a Christmas greeting addressed to the Marquises of Cuevas de Velasco. The signatories and senders of this note are the married couple of Aras Jaúregui. The signature of Don Ramón himself can be clearly seen in the lower right-hand corner. During the 20th century, reproductions were made of this type of pieces, coats of arms, weapons, armour and metal objects that served as decoration in the houses of the nobility and the rich. On numerous occasions, these reproductions featured the family coat of arms, which usually represented castles or animals, or even their own names, thus showing their great purchasing power and honouring their surname.
