In-16° (ca. 9 x 6 cm), 120 ff, A-P8, entirely printed in red and black, sifted initials, each page in a grotesque woodcut border. On title page: In Melius Singula Pomp. Occo. Below a woodcut of the crucifixion and woodcut borders. Condition: a few wormholes in title page and last page. On verso of the last page: 'Obiit Pompeius Otto anno 1537 xx die mensis Novemb.' Charming contemporary calf binding, with blind tooling, gilt gauffered edges, ends of spine repaired
Pompejus Occo was zaakgelastigde van het Augsburgse bankiershuis Fugger. He was also the banker of the koning Christiaan II of Denmark. Occo was one of the most important and successful burgers in Amsterdam, and he became a kunstmecenas. In his home "The Paradise" he met many artists and humanists. The design of this book was written by Pompey Occo, who was responsible for the Catholic faith and for bringing me to life. "In melius singula" betekent: Doe elke zaak ten beste. Ref. NK 4350.
