Rembrandt (1606-1669) - The artist's mother / Description: The artist's mother seated, half-length in profile to right, in an oriental headdress. Second state with the reworking on and below the contour of the neck and chin. With Rembrandt's monogram and date, in lower right: "RHL 1631". On watermarked laid paper (Strasbourg Lily, frequently occurring watermark in Rembrandt’s etchings). Rembrandt’s mother, Neeltgen Willemsdochter Zuytbrouch. Rembrandt recorded her in a number of etchings. It was during the 1679 inventory of Clement de Jonghe’s estate that these images were assumed to be depictions of the artist’s mother. / Dimensions: 14,70 x 13,00 cm A good impression on laid paper wit hwatermark as described. Top section and left border expertly restored.
