Master of Haarlem (1483-1486 fl.) - Christ appears tohis disciples / Description: Woodcut already used in the (1487) edition of Tboeck vanden leven Ons Heeren Jhesu Christi - Ludolphus de Saxonia - Gheraert de Leeu, 3-10-1487. It was made by the first woodcutter who participated at this work.Subject: The glorified Christ appears to His disciples. Wonderful incunabula printed text with hand drawn red rubrifications.Wood engraved initial on the backside. The study of the publications is complex. This one is from a still 15th century's publication (Very probably 1488 or 1495). Exact match of this woodcut in the 1487 edition (Google e-book online) without the designation of the capittal and page number at the top of the sheet. / Dimensions: 18,50 x 15,00 cm Good clear impression of the woodcut. The sheet is in good condition for its age with some damp stainingin top margin. / Literature: Hollstein 735 ------- Dodgson 1903, 1911 II.17.28 ------ Bartsch VII.253.34 ------ Artist: Hans Schauffelein Hans Schäufelein (1482-1539) -------- Probably born in Nuremberg, Strongly influenced by Albrecht Dürer, in whose studio in Nuremberg he worked from c. 1503. His early woodcuts include illustrations for Ulrich Pinder's ‘Der beschlossen Gart des Rosenkrantz Maria’ (1505) and ‘Speculum passionis’ (1507). After Dürer left Nuremberg for Italy in 1505, Schäufelein was instructed to paint the altarpiece for Ober-St-Veit after Dürer's design.
