Hunting crossbow Germany, c. 1600. Elaborately decorated fruitwood column. The motifs include a stag on the butt, as well as dragons, snakes, fruit, vines with buds, and unfilled cartouches. Bolt bearing with bones, probably a completed iron bolt catch with attached sight. Trigger with set trigger; iron nut and trigger guard. Steel bow (l 51.5 cm) broken on left side; repaired with two riveted splints while still in use. Tendon missing. Front end of stock with suspension bracket. L 69 cm. Very high quality inlay work.
