53 - Philippe PÉTAIN. Book " Paris au Maréchal " of 1942, copy of the Vice-President of the State Council Alfred Porché, ex-dono of the private secretary of the Maréchal Bernard Ménestrel. "Les Presses de l'Ecole Estienne, 1942, in-4 grape leaves under a re-stacked cover and a double cover, with 10 engravings in-text and 10 engravings out-of-text. Collective work commissioned and printed by the City of Paris, with a total and unique edition of 200 copies, not put on the market. All copies were offered by the City of Paris to Marshal Pétain. This one is one of 117 copies on Arches vellum. The Marshal intended it for Alfred Porché, then Vice-President of the Conseil d'Etat, as attested by a typed letter signed by Bernard Ménestrel (1906-1947), doctor, private secretary and adviser to the Marshal in Vichy (1 p in-4, on the Marshal's letterhead, on Japanese paper with a watermark of 2 crossed marshal's batons with the initials "P.P."), from Vichy, January 1, 1944: "In accordance with the centuries-old tradition of the City of Paris paying tribute to the Head of State with a work of art, a book devoted to the links between Marshal Pétain and the capital has been published. All the copies were made available to the Marshal by the City of Paris, who wanted you to share in the pleasure he felt in receiving this gift. Copy No. 143, on Arches tinted vellum, has been reserved for you by the Head of State.
