PROVENCE. 1649. Extract from the Registers of the Parliament of PROVENCE. « …The Consuls & Communities of DRAGUIGNAN (83), GORDES (84), EYRAGUES (13), & others of this Province, gave request to the aforementioned Court, the ones to have a delay to pay their debts because of the soules (taxes) which they suffered by the people of war which remained in the Province against the orders of the King; the others for permission to borrow large sums to pay for the extraordinary expenses they have suffered since the publication of the peace because of the disorder of the said Gens de guerre, & the sum promised to avoid the pillaging, rape, ransom, murder, extortion, & other excesses committed by the Gens de Guerres in the places where they make their lodgings... » Done at Aix in Parliament and published at the Bar on October 26, 1649.
