PROVENCE. 1628. POLICE OF THE STREETS. Arrest of the Court of Parliament, on the fact of the Patouille" Done in Aix-en-Provence (13), on August 19, 1628. Vignette & lettering - "The Court proving on the requisition verbally made by the Public Prosecutor of the King, for reason of several excesses and night larcenies which are usually committed in the city... enjoined the Viguier & his lieutenant to make every evening the Watch & Patouille,... who can take such number of people as they see fit to assist them, seize, and take to the body those they find in crime... The Viguier & Consuls will give the stick of justice to use during the patrol...". Cupboard (43 x 32) Condition A
