Null BÜRGER (Gottfried August). History and adventures of the illustrious knight…
Description

BÜRGER (Gottfried August). History and adventures of the illustrious knight baron of Munchhausen. Paris, Curmer, 1842. In-8 (17 x 26,8 cm) of 65 pages on blue paper. Half blue morocco, title "Van Hasselt. Baron de Munchhause" in gilt letters on the back. Printed entirely on blue paper. Some foxing. Although it is not clear who introduced the world to the famous Baron, the first writing is attributed to Raspe. Burger, having had the original in his hands, translated it and added new chapters. Finally, M. Van Hasselt, simply attributed the French translation to himself, under the title "Gulliver ressuscité". He simply added a sonnet at the beginning of the book as a tribute to the illustrious Baron. In fact, Mr. Van Hasselt had this habit of plagiarism (see the publications of Alfred Michiels on this subject). This edition of Curmer is unknown. The blue paper and the fact that his name appears on the back suggest that it is Van Hasselt's copy. Surprising edition of Curmer.
