There he showed some ability, both as a soldier and as a negotiator with the native chiefs in Pondicherry. He returned to France and put in order the notes he had collected, which presented some curious remarks. They were not published in their entirety although they contained valuable information. Among his main works, let us retain his "Philosophical essays on the manners of various foreign animals", published at the request of Buffon and summarizing the natural history, the manners and uses of the people he visited. He composed other works during the Revolution and died anonymously. A man named Carengeot, secretary of the Agricultural Society of the department of Seine-et-Marne, has given a notice on Foucher d'Obsonville (Meaux, 1805, in-8).
