Slavery - Colonies. Ministry of the Navy and the Colonies. Commission instituted, by royal decision of May 26, 1840, to examine questions relating to slavery and the political constitution of the colonies. Report made to the Minister of State for the Navy and the Colonies. Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1843. In-4, brown bradel cardboard, brown morocco title-piece, speckled edges (modern binding). Among the questions asked, one finds the abolition of slavery considered in relation to public order, to the real interest of the slave population, to the interest of the colonists, to the maintenance of the colonial system and draft laws concerning the general and simultaneous emancipation, the partial and progressive emancipation and supporting documents.
