[BARBÉ-MARBOIS (François de). Letters and answers written to Madame la Marquise de Pompadour, from MDCCLIII to MDCCLXII, inclusive [With: ] Supplement of the letters of Madame la Marquise de Pompadour. From MDCCXLVI to MDCCLII, inclusive. London, G. Owen and T. Cadell, 1772. 2 volumes in one small in-8, VIII-144-VIII-136 pp. half tan basane with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, title page, spotted edges (period binding). One spine split, boards rubbed, corners damaged. This is of course an apocryphal collection, an early work of Barbé-Marbois, but which was very successful and had several reprints (at least twenty) until 1811. It is in 1772, on the occasion of the second edition, that were added the 77 letters from 1746 to 1762 (and which occupy here the Supplement). Without the Replies. (Quérard I, 173.) Bookplate of Eugène Aubry-Vitet (1845-1930).
