Description

NAMUR, probably. Round pewter dish with a large wing, Mosan region, circa 1632. Engraved in full "au tremblé", on the wing of the Latin mention "SANCT PATER FILIVS SPIRIT" (The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit) punctuated by four solar masks, and in the center of a Virgin and Child occupying the umbilical part surrounded by a large six-pointed star alternating with five plant motifs and the Holy Eagle inscribed in a heart. A second, incompletely legible Latin inscription can be seen on the periphery of the umbilicus. This very naive engraving is signed in the decoration, we read: M.P BALTAZAR / 1632. In the center of the reverse we can see what seems to be a trace of a master stamp not identifiable. Diameter : 35,5 cm. Numerous consolidation welds, cracks and deformations. The name of this engraver has been noted on another dish of the same type bearing a hallmark of master of Namur. Source : Artcurial sale of 24/11/2008, reference 160
