Letters Patent Patent of nobility of Baron of the Empire in the name of Pierre André Hercule BERLIER, colonel of the 36th of the line On vellum, with painted coat of arms in the upper left corner Signed by the Emperor Napoleon I " Napole ". With its red wax seal with the big arms of the Empire and its ribbon August 1810 Framed under glass A.B.E. (partly unstuck) Biography : Pierre-André-Hercule Berlier (1769-1821) Captain in the Regiment of Foot Chasseurs of the Consuls' Guard on 30 Nivôse, Year XII, Berlier was made a member of the Légion d'honneur on 25 Prairial of the same year and chief of battalion in the 2nd Regiment of Foot Chasseurs on 18 Fructidor, Year XIII. He followed the Grand Army from the year XIV to 1807 in Austria, Prussia and Poland and was made an officer of the Legion of Honour on 14 March 1806. He then became colonel of the 36th regiment of line infantry on the following 20th October and was shot in the left shoulder on the 8th February 1807 at the battle of Eylau. Created a baron of the Empire on 18 August 1810, he was sent to Spain in Marshal Soult's corps and fought there from 1808 to 1814. The Emperor appointed him brigadier general on 6 August 1811. On the 27th February 1814, he fought at Orthez and on the 10th April at the Ponts-Jumeaux during the battle of Toulouse, during which a shot went through both his shoulders. Berlier was placed on half pay on September 1 of the same year, made a knight of Saint-Louis on March 7, 1815, and put in charge of the Drôme department the following May 23. He was given half pay on the 11th September and included as available in the general staff of the army on the 30th December 1818. He retired to Valence where he died on the 14th August 1821.
