Contemporary full vellum with handwritten titling, in very good condition (edge of 1st board slightly detached). Some scattered spotting, occasional light scorching, paper missing from title page, otherwise very good condition. A rare first edition, which was reprinted several times over the course of a century, despite the ban on the Remontrants' theses. This famous collection of letters is a defense of the theses of the Remontrant party by its most illustrious representatives, in particular ARMINIUS and GROTIUS. The editors Limborch and Hartsoeker intended these letters to demonstrate the orthodoxy of the Remontrant movement." J. Arminius (1560 - 1609), minister of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands, opposed the severity of the Calvinist doctrine of predestination, preferring the idea of conditional election. The most famous of the Remontrants was undoubtedly Hugo Grotius (1583-1645), the great intellectual who first defined what international law should be, and contributed to the law of peace and war, and the definition of natural law. . This book contains 25 letters by Grotius.

Richard Henry Lee Autograph Note Signed to Dr. Samuel Holten on Depreciation of the Continental Dollar Member of the notable Lee family and signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1732-1794). ANS signed “R. H. L.,” one page, 7.25 x 2, no date but likely circa 1780s. Handwritten note regarding a financial matter, written to Massachusetts patriot Dr. Samuel Holten. In full: "Will the honorable Doctor Holten be so good as cause an estimation to be made of the value in Specie of 500 dollars loaned the 29th of Sep'r 1779 according to the Continental Table of depreciation." Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet, and in fine condition. Lee makes reference to the "Continental Table of depreciation," a system for determining the value of the Continental Dollar—paper money issued to fund the Revolution which rapidly depreciated after 1779 due to excessive printing and lack of backing by tangible assets. This overproduction led to rampant inflation, eroding public confidence in the currency. By the end of the war, the Continental Dollar had lost almost all its value, encapsulated in the phrase 'not worth a Continental.' Dr. Samuel Holten (1738-1816) was a physician, jurist, and politician who represented the Massachusetts Bay Colony as a delegate to the Continental Congress, where he signed the Articles of Confederation.

Johnny Cash Signed 45 RPM Record - 'Johnny Cash Sings Hank Williams' (Sun Records) Sun Records (EPA-111) 45 RPM record for the Johnny Cash EP ‘Johnny Cash Sings Hank Williams,’ signed on the back cover in black ballpoint by Cash. The EP contains four songs: ‘I Can't Help It,’ ‘You Win Again,’ ‘Hey Good Lookin',’ and ‘I Could Never Be Ashamed of You.’ This special collection of Hank Williams songs sung by Johnny Cash was released by Sun Records in 1958. In fine condition, with a brush to the first name; the original, beautiful picture sleeve is well preserved and in excellent condition with bright graphics. The included record is in VG condition. Sun Records is where rock and roll was born. Sun was the very early recording home of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roy Orbison. In July of 1954, Elvis Presley signed with Sun and recorded ‘That's All Right.’ His presence attracted even more talent to the label. Later that same year, Johnny Cash signed with Sun. Cash, along with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis himself would form the Million Dollar Quartet, and on December 4, 1956, their famous, impromptu jam session was recorded. These artists would go on to record some of the most important and influential music in the history of rock and roll on the Sun Records label.
