ALENCÉ (Joachim d'). A treatise on magnan. Divided into two parts. The first contains the Experiments, & the second the reasons that one can give. Amsterdam : Henry Wetstein, 1687. - In-12, 147 x 89: frontispiece, (9 ff.), 140 pp. and (4 ff.), 33 plates. Tan calf, cold fillet framing the boards, gilt and painted arms on the first board, super gilt and coloured bookplate on the second board, ornamented spine (period binding). First edition of this physics treatise composed by the astronomer and physicist Joachim d'Alencé (16..-1707), containing all that was known in the field of magnetism at the time. The edition is decorated with a frontispiece and 33 beautiful plates engraved by Adriaan Schoonebeeck, offering a total of 41 figures illustrating the experiments described, always accompanied by animated scenes. A copy bearing the arms and with the super ex-libris of Joseph Bonnier de la Mosson (1692-1744), treasurer of the States of Languedoc. He remained famous for his superb collections of books and curiosities. A copy whose arms and super ex-libris have been enhanced with colors later, probably in the 20th century. Missing headpieces, worm work and splits at the hinge of the first plate, corners dulled. Light trace of a wetness on the first cover. First endpaper partly untied. Provenance: Joseph Bonnier de la Mosson. - François-de-Sales-Marie-Joseph-Paul-Benjamin de Bellaud (1772-1829), vicar general of the diocese of Sens, chaplain to Madame la Dauphine and knight of the Papal Order.
