MILITARIA]. State of the 33 companies which compose today the regiment of the French Guards according to the rank and the seniority of Mrs. captains, officers and sergeants. In French, manuscript on paper. France, S.l., 1740. 56 ff, small in-16 . Bound in red morocco with large gilt lace framing the boards with small fleurons at the corners, arms in the centre, spine ribbed and decorated, edges gilt, central worm gallery on all pages, sometimes affecting the text. A fine copy. Copy with the royal arms. This infantry regiment was created by Catherine de Medici in 1560 to guard the king. It participated in all the wars led by the different monarchs. In 1740, it had been in Paris for a few years after having participated in 1733-1735 in the War of the Polish Succession. This manuscript is composed of two parts. The first part recounts the history of the regiment, company by company: dates of creation, suburbs of Paris where they worked, end of career of their main members; for example: Morel of the 18th company "Killed at the battle of Malplaqué 1702 - Girardin of the 8th company "Broken for a particular battle - De Bourmont of the 3rd company "Permission to sell had 6000# pension 1563". The second part is a state of the regiment at the date of 1740: the detail of the dates of reception and the amount of the gratifications of the officers in post at this date by chronological order of reception - the list of the companies ready to march in campaign and that of the companies which remain - count of a company to the guards of 110 men - name with their appointements and the particular gratifications of all the members of the Staff (the colonel of the regiment is then the duke of Gramont). Interesting manuscript on the state of the regiment of the French Guards just before its participation in the War of the Austrian Succession in 1741.
