SAN PEDRO (Abad)]. Vida, Prision y Muerte del Serenisimo Senor Dn Carlos de Austria, Principe de Asturias, Hijo del Rey Phelipe Segundo. In Spanish, manuscript on paper. Spain, 18th century. 83] ff. Bound in fawn-coloured basane, spine with four raised bands decorated with gilt flowers, red edges, minor superficial spotting on the first cover, wormholes on the upper flyleaf and front cover. Biography of Charles of Austria (1545-1568), rebel son of Philip II of Spain, who died in prison on July 24, 1568. From the 17th century onwards, writers took hold of his highly romantic destiny: his life (twice his father married the bride who was intended for him), his rebellion against his father and his mysterious death. This Vida written by an "Abbot of St. Peter" does not seem to have been edited and only copies can be found, e.g. in Oxford, Bodleian Library (Ms. Add. A. 158).
