[VAR]. [SAINT-MAXIMIN-LA-SAINTE-BAUME]. Processionale sacri ordinis FF. Praedicatorum ad usum P.F. Antonii Rostan San-Maximinensis ejusdem ordinis alumni. Apud Sancti Maximinum anno domini MDCCLXXVII [1777]. In Latin, manuscript on paper France, Saint-Maximin, 1777. 58 pp. preceded by 3 ff. (including the title) and followed by 14 ff. with title in red and black, square notation on 4-line staves in red ink. Bound in full tan basane, smooth spine decorated, red leather title page, red edges, marbled paper endpapers. Dimensions : 128 x 190 mm. The Royal Convent of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, formerly known as the "Dominican Convent", was located in the historic district of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. When the remains of St. Mary Magdalene were discovered (inventio) around 1295, a basilica was built to house them, and a new convent was built at the request of Charles II of Anjou. The latter was administered by the Dominicans until 1959 (apart from the revolutionary period, when the building became a prison). Provenance: Louis Rostan, ex-libris label pasted on the upper back cover. Note that Louis Rostan is the author of Notice sur l'église de Saint-Maximin (Var) (1839) and Monographie du couvent des dominicains de Saint-Maximin (1873).
