PANEL OF DAMASK TILES. Siliceous paste painted in polychrome under a transparent colourless glaze. This beautiful panel presents a central decoration in cobalt, turquoise, green and aubergine, of floral motifs (tulips, carnations and composite flowers) and mandorles with palmettes on a white background. It is bordered by a frieze of florets on a cobalt background. A tile with comparable decoration is published in: Millner A. (2015) Damascus Tiles, Prestel Editions, n° 6.41, p. 260 (small old restorations, two tiles fractured, in an old frame). Levant, Damascus, late 16th century.
