Description
CARVED WOOD FRIEZE. Resinous wood with remains of polychromy. This fragment of frieze is carved with floral and geometric motifs inscribed in alternating mandorles. Some of the motifs are reminiscent of calligraphic letter stalks, the lower part of which is missing. It is probably a stylised inscription of blessings. Another fragment of a frieze of the same type is attached. Spain or Maghreb, Almohad or Marinid period, 13th-15th century. H_105 cm W_16 cm Provenance: Former French private collection
