BOCCACE (Jean). THE PLEASANT BOOK OF NOBLE MAN JEHAN BOCACE POETE FLORENTIN. Paris, Arnoul et Charles les Angelliers frères, 1538. In-12 skilfully set in a red morocco binding (98 X 156 mm), framed with wide gilt lace on the boards, red morocco lining decorated with a gilt lace frame, ornate ribbed spine, title-piece, ornate head and neck boards, modern slipcase (later binding); (8) ff., 196 ff., (1) page of publisher's mark. The box in the compartment below the title-piece has been altered and is slightly different from the other three. SECOND EDITION of the French version of the translation of De claris mulieribus (Of famous women). Gothic printing with the bastard letters of Jean Réal. Title printed in red and black with the publisher's mark, repeated on the back of the last leaf. At the head of the chapters, historiated initials or on a sifted background. Nice WOODEN ENGRAVING representing John Boccaccio offering his book. This edition was shared between many booksellers, with modification of the first (title) and last leaves (publisher's mark).
