LARGE CAMEO SIGNED LOUIS MERLEY (1815-1883). FROM THE COLLECTION OF EMPEROR ALEXANDER II. Of oval form, carved in an agate block, three layers, most probably representing a profile of the Grand Duke Constantine Nicolaievich of Russia (1827-1892), brother of Tsar Alexander II, head turned to the right, signed "L. Merley", preserved in a later giltwood frame surmounted by a ribboned bow. On the reverse side, the monogram of the emperor Alexander II (A. II.) under an imperial crown, in red letters. Two accidents on the base, but good condition. French work circa 1860-1865. Sight : H. : 4,5 cm - L. : 3,5 cm. History: Louis Merley is a French medallist sculptor, who made many cameos, often mounted in jewelry, see a bracelet sold at Bertolami Fine Art, under No. 336, November 9, 2018. He is also the author of the 20 franc gold coin (head of the goddess Ceres, 1851) and a beautiful portrait of Napoleon III (1853).
