PERRECIOT Claude Joseph [Roulans, 1728 - id., 1798], famous historian and writer. He wrote notably History of the conditions and state of the people in France, and in the greater part of of Europe. Autograph letter signed, addressed to a counselor at the Regency Council in Besançon. Besançon, 21 Xbre 1779; 2 3/4 pages in-4°, with address. Interesting and rare literary letter. He thanks him for the place the King has honoured him with. "Your commissioner found me busy transcribing the cartulary of Neufchatel. A copyist who has a beautiful hand and who draws the old writings very well has been working on it for 15 days in my room. I direct him in his operations. I read to him the words which embarrass him and I indicate to him foot by foot the acts which it is necessary to extract and those which it is necessary to omit to be foreign) S.A.S. although more than half of the charters relate to the times of Neuchatel, Marnay, Lile Montagu etc. where the duke of Wirtemberg does not have any right, the extracts will not leave to form a considerable volume. The first thing to be done is to get a copy of the of the time, and I am sure that I will be able to do so in a few days' time. You will hardly be able to have the whole collection before mid-March itself, at least before Carnival. I could send it to you in parcels.
