Rare letter of the general Marceau thanking a citizen having procured him horses. This letter was written 2 months before his death by General Marceau. In charge of guarding the Rhine crossings, while both armies were engaged in unsuccessful unsuccessful campaigns against the Austrians, he was mortally wounded (at the age of 27) near Altenkirchen in September 1796, while protecting the retreat of French troops.
