Inro with two shunuri lacquered wooden boxes, Japan, early 19th century Decorated in takamakie with two oxen, one gold-lacquered and the other sabinuri-lacquered on one side, and a black-lacquered goat near a rock on the other. The nashiji-lacquered interior features a small, removable secret compartment. 5.4 x 8.3 cm Wear and chips.

Executed in gilded hiramaki-e and takamaki-e , on a shiny black lacquered background, the compartmentalized interior is covered with gold lacquer sprinkled with gold. Laced with purple silk cords, with a brown glass bead, and 2-part netsuke decorated with a herd of oxen by a river. (some signs of wear) Dimensions: Inrô: Height 8.0 cm, Width 6.2 cm, Depth 2.6 cm.
