We speak of Volkswagen Combi or Volkswagen Type 2 or VW bus. - The original design dates back to 1947 and is the work of a Dutch industrialist, the Volkswagen importer in the Netherlands, Ben Pon. He needed a smaller, sturdy and economical commercial vehicle for his business, so he commissioned the first prototypes of what was to become the Type 2. Production and marketing began in March 1950, thanks to the support of Heinrich Nordhoff, then head of the group. - This was the second motor vehicle line presented by Volkswagen in 1950. - March 1951 saw the presentation of the Type 2 at the Geneva Motor Show. It used the engine and axles of the Beetle, but dispensed with the central tubular frame in favour of a self-supporting body, which was supported by a main frame. The payload is 750 kg. The engine has a displacement of 1,131 cm and develops 24 hp at 3,300 rpm. - In 1962 the one millionth Transporter rolls off the production line. Over the years the T1 has changed as its tasks have expanded. But it still looks good with its split windscreen. The car - The car we offer is a Mini Bus Split Window. This car dates from 1968. It's a T1 combi, the first combi that appeared and that we can immediately recognize with the famous Split window layout of its windscreen, real signature of this first model. It is part of the last year of production of the T1 which leaves its place to the T2 from 1968. - It is a combi equipped to carry 9 people with its 3 large benches and its trunk. - It is equipped with a 4 cylinder engine of 1493 cm3 and a 4 speed manual gearbox. Contrary to the Samba Bus, it has only 15 windows which bend this iconic body but does not have the windows on the side of the roof. - It comes in a nice condition with its rare white and brown biton body. It is equipped with an interesting option, the ladder allowing access to the luggage rack on the roof. - To note: traces of blackson under the chassis, and a slight engine oil leak. - The owner tells us that about 1000 euros worth of parts have been recently installed on the vehicle (complete invoice file). - If this vehicle is in very good condition, the specialist mentions however a play in the steering and a hot idle problem. We advise the purchaser to have the vehicle serviced before going on long journeys. - For more information, go to the technical sheet, consult the inspection report or contact our team. Score : 90 / 100 A superb model with a lot of charm. In a beautiful and rare condition.
