Renault Supercinq EBS Brand : Renault Model : Supercinq EBS Date of registration: 1987 Mileage on the odometer: 236 000 km The model - The R5 was a revolutionary car in 1972 with its hatchback and plastic bumpers. It was the best-selling car in France for 10 years. - In order to face the increasing competition in this segment, Renault offered a "re-styling" in 1988. For its renewal, Renault had several teams work on it, and it is finally the drawing of Marcello Gandini which was retained, partly because it preserved much of the features of the R5. Its design is due to a designer foreign to the firm, whereas the R5 had been drawn internally. - Presented in 1979, the new R5 is in fact called Supercinq. In the end, the ex-Renault put an end to the collaboration, but EBS nevertheless produced between 1987 and 1996 nearly 886 Supercabrios, including a few right-hand drive cars. - EBS offered its transformation in two versions. One based on a classic Supercabrio, the other on the GT Turbo version. In order to get one, you had to bring a Supercinq to EBS in Belgium and pay 30 to 40.000 Francs for the transformation. - As a comparison, the final quote was about 20% more expensive than the competition.
