He was appointed Grand Treasurer of the King's orders in June 1785. Following the convocation of the Assembly of Notables in 1787, he had to leave the ministry and was exiled to Lorraine. At the beginning of the Revolution, he had also sent to England his splendid collections of books and paintings; he had them sold there one after the other, but contrary to what one might have thought and despite the interest and the number of objects dispersed at auction, the sales produced little money. O.H.R. pl. 1030, n°1. Damage to the upper cover, small lack of leather at the bottom of the upper cover.
