Originally from the town of Uzès, Ferdinand Roybet studied painting at the Lyon museum where he refined his observations through direct study of nature.
In 1864, he moved to Paris with the help of his friend Antoine Vollon, where he exhibited for the first time at the Salon.
This lover of the great periods of the 17th and 18th centuries regularly painted musketeers with a realistic treatment accentuated by a very particular meticulousness. Over the years, his painting was enriched by his travels in Holland, North Africa, Italy and Spain, which led him to study the compositions of the great masters.
The Roybet Fould Museum exhibits many of the artist's works
