Pencil drawing on green tinted "Preller" paper (oval), partly scratched and sparsely heightened with white. Monogrammed (?) u.li. Verso old artist's inscription in pencil by another hand. Mounted in a passepartout with full margins at the upper margin. Margins minimally finger-marked. Verso soiled. Dimensions: dep. 20 x 30 cm, sheet 28 x 38 cm, psp. 31 x 44.5 cm. Friedrich August Reinhardt 1831 Leipzig - 1915 Dresden Son of Carl Christian Reinhardt, an engraver and painter, whose brother was the writer Carl August Reinhart. Studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Leipzig among others under Gustav Jäger. Afterwards three years with Friedrich Preller the Elder in Weimar. From 1852 in Italy. 1855 return, made his first painting based on impressions of his trip to Italy, which became part of the collection of the Grand Duke of Oldenburg. Briefly in Silesia and Vienna, then moved to Leipzig, from 1859 living in Dresden. There 1893-1911 professor and drawing teacher at the Dresden cadet corps.
