Educated by his father and private lessons by Oluf Olufsen Bagge, who was his foster father 1812-16. 1826-31 studied at the academy of arts in Copenhagen (1831 small silver and 1833 large gold medal). Engraver under Jean Marie Leroux and H.C. Müller in Paris and Paolo Toschi in Parma. In the artist's works especially the paternal influence is noticeable in a conception of nature which was influenced by him. As a painter, Eckersberg created a large number of copies of his father's works.
